Top 10 Email Forwards

After browsing around for a least an hour and getting a good idea of the types of forwards people receive on a daily basis, there is not a list created to show off the top 10. In fact, I was looking more for those types that say "please send to at least 7 friends or you will have bad luck forever" because typically those are sweet emails with a poem or story or the like. I get them all the time. My family is the worst about it. (yes mother - that's you!) LOL
Anyway, so I hopped on over to snopes.com which has always been an entertaining site and checked out what they said. They have a list of the 25 top urban legends and some of them I've seen a lot. Mixed into that list are several email "scams" of sorts so I am going to compile that list instead. So the top 10 email forwards that are scam related are as follows:

  1. The Microsoft/AOL Giveaway - Yes, I've seen this one - this is the one that tells me I need to forward the email to as many people as possible and microsoft will track that for me. And then for each of those people I forwarded it to I'm going to get $245/person - and then the list goes on and on about the different amounts of money. Now in fairness, when *I* received the email, I do not remember it only being $245 - I thought it was $2,000 or more. I honestly think anyone who falls for that is ridiculous!
  2. Simple Tests For Diagnosing Strokes - Ok, I've never seen this one before. At least not unless it's automatically been spam-busted by my email program. Apparently this one claims that by administering three simple tests, you will help diagnose a stroke, and pricking a stroke victim's fingers will prevent further harm from the cerebral attack. Well, first of all, half of the email is true, as my paramedic friend can confirm - however pricking a victims finger will NOT prevent further harm. I certainly hope nobody believes that!
  3. Osama Bin Laden Virus - I've seen variations of this, but not the one's listed. This one sends an email claiming to have video and pictures of osama's "suicide"- when you click on it - a virus is downloaded to your computer. The Backdoor.Hacarmy.D trojan horse.
  4. Dialing a code on a cell phone saved a woman's life - the email claims that a woman being "pulled over" dialed #77 on her cell phone and saved her life because indeed the man pulling her over was NOT the police! Yes, I have received this email as well, with variations too! Different codes, different scenario's, etc.
  5. CarJackers Put Flyers on the Rear Window - I've seen this one in all it's glory as well - the situation is that supposedly car jackers put flyers on the rear window. When you get in to drive away and notice it, you get out and get it and the car jacker grabs the car at that moment and takes off. I remember reading it and thinking, well it probably has happened once. I doubt if it's an "epidemic" however.
  6. The Applebee's Gift Certificate Email - yep - got this one about a dozen times in one week. Sadly from some VERY intelligent individuals. The idea of the email is that Applebee's restaurants are giving away $50 gift certificates to customers who forward an e-mail message. Guess what? They aren't!
  7. Do you visit Illegal websites - FBI and CIA are "apparently" sending emails telling you that you are under investigation for visiting illegal website. Guess what? You're not - you're actually being sent a wonderful email that contains the Sober.X Virus. Isn't that just grand?
  8. Swiffer Wet Jet Email - Ha! As a pet owner, many caring friends have sent me this email. It claims the Swiffer WetJet poses a general danger to dogs and other household pets. Obviously it was false and I still happily use my swiffer wet jet (I need to get some more fluid!) LOL
  9. Petition to Ban Religious Broadcasting - Dr. Dobson is at it again - this time he's pleading for our action because Atheists are petitioning the FCC to get religious broadcasting banned from American airwaves. Can you imagine? Using Dr. Dobson's name was great, however this is NOT true.
  10. Cell Phone Directory Email - yep seen it at least a half dozen times. Now my cell phone number is going to be published in this huge directory - right? WRONG! This is illegal and is not in the works. Not to mention - can you imagine how difficult that would be with people changing numbers all the time, etc.

Well, that has to be a record folks. I've only not seen ONE of the top 10 emails. So they must be true. Now if I could just find a list with the true forwards, the cute poems, the little picture emails, etc. I'd love to post those!

One of my favorite things...

I know I'm strange, but you've probably noticed, I love lists. My favorite thing at the end of the year is finding top ten lists. Doesn't necessarily matter what they are of, they just need to be interesting. So after I grabbed my cup of coffee this morning I checked my email and I had one from a friend directing me to ... what else? ... a Top 10 list on someone's blog. I thought it was amusing and honestly can agree that I probably got many of the same messages. So here is a top 10 list for your enjoyment!

AOL released what they're calling the Top Spam Subjects for 2005. AOL apparently blocked over 556 billion spam emails in 2005, and they used this data to compile this list of the
Top 10:

  • Online Prescriptions Made Easy
  • Thank you: Your $199 Rolex Special Included
  • Your Mortgage Application is Ready
  • Thank you for your business. Shipment notification
  • Breaking Stock News** Small Cap Issue Poised to Triple
  • It's Lisa, I must have sent you to the wrong site
  • Get an Apple iPod Nano, PS3 or Xbox 360 for Free
  • Body Wrap: Lose 6-20 inches in one hour
  • Double Standards New Product - Penis Patch
  • Donald Trump Wants You - Please Respond

Now, although I agree with many, I also disagree... I keep getting one over and over again from several different email address' - the subject line says:

    "re: about your website"

Now this stupid email informs me all about a charity and other things. I also get the infamous paypal emails constantly. As well as many other's. About being selected to win such and such, etc. It's rather annoying, but all in all I find it more fascinating that anyone finds the time to just sit and write up spam emails and send them out. The forwards can be annoying to....now there's a top 10 list I'd like to see! Let's see if I can go dig one up!

Music Meme Day 7 - Poison

    Day 7 - Genre - Pop Metal

In a decade fueled by party anthems and power ballads, Poison found a high amount of popularity, with only Bon Jovi and Def Leppard outselling them. While the group had a long string of hits, they soon became just as renowned for their stage show, and continued to be a major attraction over the course of their first three albums. Although their success was rather short-lived, one cannot deny the major effect that Poison had on the music industry during their career.

Formerly known as Paris, Poison was formed in 1984 by singer Bret Michaels, bassist Bobby Dall, and drummer Rikki Rockett. After traveling from Harrisburg, PA, to Los Angeles, CA, the band added guitarist C.C. Deville to their lineup. The group was signed to Enigma Records in 1986, where they released their first album, Look What the Cat Dragged In. The record, spawning the Top Ten hits "I Want Action," "Talk Dirty to Me," and "I Won't Forget You," was a surprise success, selling two-million copies within a year following its release.

While the band was already quite popular by the end of 1987, 1988's Open Up & Say...Ahhh! was their commercial breakthrough, due to the massive hits "Fallen Angel," "Nothin' But a Good Time," and "Every Rose Has Its Thorn." After a prosperous tour with David Lee Roth, the group returned to the studio to record Flesh and Blood in 1990. The album, which included the upbeat "Unskinny Bop" and the sentimental "Something to Believe In," was another major success. The dynamic tour supporting the record brought on the release of Swallow This Live, a double-disc set which included live versions of their biggest hits, along with four new studio tracks. The band was secretly falling apart, as an infamous appearance on MTV showed Deville perform nearly half of "Talk Dirty to Me" with his guitar unplugged. The band broke into a brawl backstage after the disastrous performance.

Shortly after the release of Swallow This Live, Poison fired Deville due to his increasing addiction to drugs and alcohol. His replacement, Richie Kotzen, made his commercial debut with the band on the 1993 Native Tongue album, which, despite some strong reviews and a hit single, "Stand," was a commercial disappointment. Kotzen was fired during the subsequent tour, and Blues Saraceno became Poison's third guitarist. The band recorded their fifth studio album, Crack a Smile, for release in 1996, but the record was shelved and replaced with the Greatest Hits: 1986-1996 disc. Toward the end of 1996, Saraceno left and Deville returned to the band, which eventually resulted in a successful reunion tour in the summer of 1999; the Crack a Smile sessions were finally released the following spring, soon followed by the mostly live Power to the People. Another tour was cut short by an accident that left Dall with serious back surgery and at least a six-month break from the band. By the time he got back into shape, the band stepped into the studio and recorded Hollyweird, which was released in the summer of 2002. The following tour was promoted as a nostalgia experience and was funded by VH1. ~ Barry Weber, All Music Guide

Music MeMe Day 6 - Air Supply

    Day 6 - Genre - Lite Rock

With their heavily orchestrated, sweet ballads, the Australian soft rock group Air Supply became a staple of early-'80s radio, scoring a string of seven straight Top Five singles. Air Supply, for most intents and purposes, was the duo of vocalists Russell Hitchcock and Graham Russell; other members came through the group over the years, yet they only functioned as backing musicians and added little to the group's sound. Hitchcock and Russell met while performing in a Sydney, Australia, production of Jesus Christ Superstar in 1976. The two singers formed a partnership and with the addition of four supporting musicians -- keyboardist Frank Esler-Smith, guitarist David Moyse, bassist David Green, and drummer Ralph Cooper -- Air Supply was born.

For several years, the group gained no attention outside of Australia, earning one significant hit single, "Love and Other Bruises." Their first international exposure came in the late '70s, when Rod Stewart had them as his opening act on a North American tour. Air Supply signed a record contract with Arista in 1980, releasing their first album by the end of the year. Lost in Love, their debut, was a major success in the U.S., selling over two million copies and spawning the hit singles "Lost in Love," "All Out of Love," and "Every Woman in the World." The following year they released their second album, The One That You Love. The title track became their only number one hit and it also featured two other Top Ten hits, "Here I Am (Just When I Thought I Was Over You)" and "Sweet Dreams." With their third album, 1982's Now and Forever, their popularity dipped slightly -- it only had one Top Ten hit, "Even the Nights Are Better," and the other two singles, "Young Love" and "Two Less Lonely People in the World," scraped the bottom of the Top 40. Air Supply released a Greatest Hits collection in 1983, featuring a new single, "Making Love Out of Nothing at All." The single spent two weeks at number two while the album peaked at number seven and eventually sold over four million copies.

Two years later, they released Air Supply, their fourth album. It featured the number 19 single "Just As I Am," but it was clear that their audience was shrinking -- the album was their first not to go platinum. Hearts in Motion (1986) was even less successful, peaking at number 84 and spending only nine weeks on the charts. After its disappointing performance, Air Supply broke up. Hitchcock and Russell reunited in 1991, releasing Earth Is..., but the album failed to make the charts as did 1993's Vanishing Race and 1995's News From Nowhere. The new millennium marked the band's first studio album in four years, and a summer tour in support of Yours Truly. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide

Music MeMe Day 5 - Bryan Adams

    Day 5 - Genre - Adult Contemporary
    New Genre

A little something about Bryan Adams
Canada had its share of pop success stories in the 1980s, though for most - Martha and the Muffins, Men Without Hats, etc. - that success was pretty short
lived. Bryan Adams meanwhile has managed to stay on top of things since his 1983 album Cuts Like A Knife brought him to the attention of listeners outside of Canada. In 1984 Adams was introduced to the top of the pop charts, with a #1 album - Reckless - and a run of top ten hits. With hits "Heaven," "Summer of '69" and "Run To You," Adams and his rock ballads owned top 40 radio in the US for a few months... whether that is good thing or not I'll leave up to you to decide. Reckless became the top selling album ever released by a Canadian act, and earned him a grammy nomination and a list of awards at home. For the '90s, Bryan Adams softened his sound his sound a touch, setting aside the "rock" part of his former sound and settling with ballads. The change yielded great success in 1991 with "(Everything I Do) I Do It For You," a track from Kevin Costner's fluffy Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves film. Again, he topped charts at home and elsewhere and won awards. And since contributing to soundtrack had paid off so well he did it again... and again. He had a hit from the fluffy 1993 Three Musketeers film, and topped the US charts with "Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman?" from the slightly-less-fluffy film Don Juan Demarco. Adams remains hard at work, having released his tenth solo album last year.

Music MeMe Day 4 - Jim Brickman

Day 4 - Genre - Contemporary Instrumental (classical piano)
    We changed genre's again.

Though classically trained, pianist Jim Brickman prefers to play more pop-flavored gently lyrical New Age music. His unique compositions are emotional and structured, but not rigidly so. Brickman enrolled in the Cleveland Institute of Music in his late teens. The focus was on classical music, but Brickman could not escape the lure of mainstream music and at age 19 began writing commercial jingles. This led him to compose music for such major outfits the Gap, Isuzu, Sprint and Kellogs as well as with Jim Henson and Henson Associates. During his association with Henson, he composed for the Muppets and for projects on Sesame Street. He also assisted on some of Henson's Disney projects. Brickman recorded his debut album No Words on Windham Hill in 1994. The following year he released By Heart on the same label, and in 1997 issued Picture This as well as The Gift, a collection of seasonal favorites. Visions of Love followed a year later, and in early 1999 Brickman returned with Destiny A classy live effort, My Romance: An Evening with Jim Brickman appeared in 2000. Two years later, Brickman crafted a beautiful children's album called Love Songs and Lullabies. Efforts such as Grace, Peace and The Disney Songbook followed in the relaxing yet elegant vein of his earlier work.

    The Eye of God

I was surfing blogs on blogexplosion and happened to stumble across a picture that I've seen before. My son was standing behind me when the page loaded. (age 11). We both gasped in surprise when it loaded. Yes, I've seen this before, but each time I do, it just catches me off guard. My son however had not seen it and it led to lots of questions. First of all, he's the biggest science nut in the world I think. At age 9 he decided he wanted to be a Marine Biologist when he grew up and hasn't changed again since. But he is also God's child. And when I say that he is the child of God, I mean it in the literal sense, as the bible states, but I also mean it in a "less-literal" way. He is a baby Christian. He is still learning and growing. The questions he asks are so full of innocence and the curiousity that lots of children experience when talking about God. He doesn't fully understand but in his eyes you can see he wants to so badly. It's such a beautiful thing.

My friend doesn't encourage "Santa" in their house - they know EXACTLY who Santa is in their house. She chose to tell her children because she was afraid that they would perceive God right along with Santa, The Easter Bunny and the toothfairy. I have to admit, I almost agreed with her. However, my kids were believers (my son figured it out approximately 2 years ago or so). So I asked her why she doesn't accept Santa in her house. Her answer was simple, "I don't want the children to ever confuse if God is real." Now the first thing I have to tell you about her is that she is a STRONG faithfilled Christian woman. She is also who brought me back to the church, so she is steps ahead of me in her faith. What surprised me the most about the whole thing, was that she didn't seem to have faith that God would ensure her children believed in Him. That through their blessings they would see. Regardless, they don't hear about "Santa" the way the rest of us did/do. However, they are happy well adjusted, strong faithbased Children (ok so two of her kids are under 5 so maybe not them). The oldest accepted Christ last year in a ceremony that I have to admit made me cry. It was beautiful to see a 7 year old boy, openly accepting Christ and vowing to live in his grace (so to speak).

There is a point to all this. When my son saw the picture this morning, he looked at it, gasped much the way I did, and said "Mom that's proof right there God exists." Even after reading him what it was, and I did include the exerpt we found below, he still wasn't convinced that wasn't "from God". His theory is, God created the world, so why wouldn't he make the gasses look like he was watching over us. He doesn't want us to forget. Wow! I have a really smart kid.

Here is the info we found on the photo - a lot of people dispelled it's authenticity - seem's it's authentic - just not what it sure appears to be!

This is indeed an authentic photograph — or rather, composite of photos — taken by NASA's Hubble Space Telescope and the Kitt Peak National Observatory in Arizona. It was featured on NASA's Website as an Astronomy Picture of the Day in May 2003 and thereafter posted on a number of Websites under the title "The Eye of God" (though I couldn't find evidence that NASA has ever referred to it as such). The awe-inspiring image has also been featured on magazine covers and in articles about space imagery.

The image depicts the so-called Helix Nebula, described by astronomers as "a trillion-mile-long tunnel of glowing gases." At its center is dying, Sun-like star which has ejected masses of dust and gas to form tentacle-like filaments stretching toward an outer rim composed of the same material. The Sun itself may look like this in several billion years.

Music Meme Day 3 - Michael W. Smith

    Day 3 - Genre - Contemporary Christian
We changed genre's for a bit.

Michael W. Smith - Smitty is 17 years into a career which began as Amy Grant's keyboard player, you've already been awarded 23 #1 songs, 1 platinum record, 6 gold records, two Grammy awards and 22 Doves awards. This year also saw Michael walk away with the prestigious Dove Award for Artist of the Year. His successes in the pop music field (which began with his top five hit "Place in This World" and the number one hit, "I Will Be Here For You") continues with his recent Jim Brickman duet "Love of My Life." Add to all that his recent coup as the first Christian artist to ever receive the ASCAP "Golden Note" Award for lifetime achievement in songwriting, (which puts him in the same company as Stevie Wonder and Elton John) and you have to wonder if it's all downhill from here.

Whether he's serving people through his church, through the ministry of Rocketown, through his music heard on radios and in concerts or through the halls of his own home with his five kids and wife of eighteen years, one thing is certain: there is truly a time for everything. And right now with This Is Your Time, he has given listeners a time to reflect, to celebrate, to remember and to rediscover the freshness of our faith. Even though the project was born through a season of sadness and loss, the hope-laden songs triumph and create what may even be a time to dance. Ask Smitty what's next and he'll probably not be able to answer you. After all, faith is meant to be an adventure, and at this point in his journey, even though he's not sure exactly what's around the next corner, Michael W. Smith is still having the time of his life.

*whew* that one was harder than I first thought - I love so many songs and it was hard to choose from so many titles for some of the answers. On the other hand, I learned something new about Michael W. Smith - he does not have a song with the word woman, women, or girl in the title! LOL
    ...

So, how about you? Describe yourself with song titles either in the comments, or on your own blog and leave a link/trackback so we can check it out!

Music Meme Day 2 - Martina McBride

    Day 2 - Genre - New Country - Tomorrow we'll change genre's a little.
Ok, it's day 2 and I did it again. LOL Why is this so fun? Or am I just an oddball here?

Martina McBride (born Martina Schiff) was born July 29, 1966, in Sharon, Kan., and grew up on a farm singing country music from the moment she could tiptoe up to a mike. Before launching her own career on RCA Records, McBride learned about life on the road by selling T-shirts at Garth Brooks concerts. Her first album, 1992's The Time Has Come, stumbled, but the 1993 follow-up The Way That I Am introduced her to the country audience with the upbeat single and video "My Baby Loves Me." Another single from that album, "Independence Day," failed to crack the Top 10. However, by singing about spousal abuse without coming off as preachy, the song has since become McBride's signature song. The video earned a CMA award in 1994, and McBride has rarely released a single since then without an accompanying video.

The title track from 1995's Wild Angels became her first No. 1 hit, and she joined the Grand Ole Opry that same year. She continued to rack up hits -- including "A Broken Wing," "Happy Girl," "Wrong Again," "Whatever You Say, "I Love You" and "Love's the Only House" -- and captured her first CMA female vocalist award in 1999.

She took her second CMA female vocalist trophy in 2002, on the strength of her Greatest Hits package, with the new successes "When God-Fearin' Women Get the Blues," "Blessed," "Where Would You Be" and "Concrete Angel." A studio album, Martina, followed in 2003, along with her third female vocalist trophy from the CMA.

Music MeMe Day 1 - Reba McEntire

    Day 1 - Genre - Old Country
I am not well-versed on the whole MeMe thing but I was browsing blog explosion and came upon a cute one (and well me and my music), so I decided to do it! It was challenging to say the very least. I thought I'd add a blurb about each artist to keep it interesting as well! Hope you enjoy!

From “Can't Even Get the Blues” in 1982 to “Somebody” in 2004, Reba McEntire has been delivering No. 1 songs for more than 20 years. Her name and voice are synonymous with country music. As a mainstay on country radio, Reba's music has become a soundtrack for the human experience. She has put words to our heartache with songs like “You Lie”, “Somebody Should Leave” and “Rumor Has It”; inspired us with “I'm A Survivor” and “How Was I To Know”; and broken our hearts with “The Greatest Man I Never Knew” and “And Still.” And, no one can deliver a love song like the redhead from Oklahoma – “Somebody” and “Forever Love” gave us hope that love really does conquer all. That talent has also brought her a slew of awards and honors, including 15 American Music Awards, 12 Academy of Country Music awards, seven Country Music Association awards and two Grammys. In a career that has now expanded beyond music, Reba is also a multiple award winner in the acting arena. Her critically acclaimed Broadway debut in 2001's "Annie Get Your Gun" was awarded both the Drama Desk and Outer Critics awards. Now in its fifth season, her self-titled TV show, Reba, reigns as the WB's top rated sitcom, and has landed Reba a Golden Globe nomination and a People's Choice Award.
